 Australian visual artist Michael Leunig invited me to collaborate with him at TheJ Theatre in Noosa on 12 August 2023. During the performance, I improvised electric guitar vignettes in the gaps between Michael’s recitations of his own poetry. While I improvised, Michael also painted two acrylic artworks on paper while seated at a desk, with an overhead camera projecting the evolving artwork onto a large screen at the back of the stage. Each painting took approximately five minutes to complete, during which I performed extended pieces on my electric guitar and effects, the second of which I’m including as folio work Noosa Birds. The theatre was filled with a friendly audience, engaged and entertained by this unique interactive interdisciplinary performance.
